Dr. Schlegel is the Chairman of Urology and has a long history of evaluation of men at risk for, and effective treatment of localized prostate cancer. He helped to develop the surgical treatment of prostate cancer by identifying the nerves and other structures in the pelvis critical for safely removing prostate cancer with optimal maintenance of normal sexual and urinary function. He has also led development of prostate cancer treatments such as the Vantas implant. Dr. Schlegel also helps coordinate the care of patients with other urologic cancers, as well as prostate cancer.
